Canvas print of a reed pen drawing of the hawthorn in full bloom. Drawn with walnut ink on paper using reed pens made from bullrushes I harvetsed in a local pond. I used the same technique that Van Gogh used when he drew the landscape down in the south of France. I cut the breeds down to pen size and cut different nip shapes to create a variety of marks when drawing. The walnut ink has a rich variety of subtle, warm tones. The strength of the sunlight and color of a summer day comes out in this drawing even though its in sepia. This scene is the field behind my house in full summer with the high contract of shadow cast from the hawthorn bushes that were in full bloom at the time.
