Durdle Door Bather is a Canvas Art Print reproduction of an Original Painting by British artist William Rowsell, painted en plein air in June 2026. The work depicts a young girl in a luminous pink bathing suit poised beneath the monumental natural arch of Durdle Door on the Jurassic Coast, Dorset.

Painted on location with The London Plein Air Painters, the composition captures the cathedral-like grandeur of the stone arch, the jewel-toned emerald sea, and a solitary figure suspended between earth and sky — distilling the essence of a still English summer's day on one of Britain's most iconic coastlines.

Canvas prints are available in the following size formats: 1:1, 2:1, 4:3 and 5:4.

If an image is currently not available in a format you require, please contact us and we will add the specific format upon request.

Yes. If your canvas print is damaged upon delivery, please contact us and we will organise a replacement.

How do you care for the canvas prints?

General care

It’s important to keep them in a low-traffic area where they are out of the reach of children.

Lighting: Canvas prints are beautiful pieces of art that can be enjoyed for years to come. However, it is important to remember that they should not be displayed in direct sunlight. The ultraviolet rays from the sun can fade the colors in the print over time. For this reason, it is best to display your giclee prints in a place where they will receive less light. Our canvas products come with UV protective coatings, so they are less likely to fade than prints on other materials.

Handling

It is important to handle it with care.  You should never place the print face down on any object or surface, and you should also avoid placing objects on top of the artwork when it is in storage. Avoid touching the surface of the print, the oils from your skin can cause damage and premature aging, preferably with clean white cotton gloves. Additionally, you should handle the print only from the sides to avoid scratching the surface (especially the edges).

Cleaning

Prints don’t need a lot of cleaning, but when it comes to cleaning a print, it’s important to take caution not to damage the print. Canvas should never be washed with water or solvents, as this could cause staining. Instead, use a dry clean, white cloth to gently wipe off any dust or dirt. A water drop on the paper print surface will be permanently visible when dry. If the print is too dirty or damaged it may not be salvageable.

Materials details

All canvas prints come stretched. Stretcher bars come in different sizes and are usually made of fir or pine. They provide the main support for the canvas and help to prevent bending and warping. Cross braces may also be used for added frame support depending on the size. To properly stretch a canvas, we use rounded-edge stretcher bars to allow the canvas to roll over the canvas rather than crease over a sharp edge. Rounded edges also help reduce surface friction and allow for a more uniform and tighter draw.

This will help reduce sagging of the print in the future. Changes in relative humidity and temperature can cause sagging, even to originals.

Storage

To keep your canvas prints looking the best for many years to come, it is important to store them in an environment that is both humidity and temperature controlled.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for paintings is between 18°C to 23°C (65°F to 75°F) degrees Fahrenheit. This will help to keep the paintings within a 11°C or 20°F degree range. If the temperature drops a lot at night or goes
up considerably during the day, it is not an ideal environment for artworks (prints of originals).

Humidity: Ideal condition = 50% humidity.

If the humidity is too high, the giclee’s may start to yellow; if it is too low, they may start to crack. Canvas can become loose and yellow when the humid air is too high and/ or exposed to moisture. If it is too low, it then tightens the print and may start to crack when the air dries out.

White frames bring a fresh, clean look that pairs well with light, soft tones and pastel colour palettes. They're a perfect match for modern, Scandinavian, or coastal interiors, adding a sense of openness and calm to any space.

Black frames offer a sleek, modern aesthetic that's perfect for bold, vibrant artwork or photography. Their crisp lines and neutral tone create a strong contrast that highlights bright colours and fine details, making them a versatile choice for both contemporary and minimalist spaces.

Oak frames bring a timeless and elegant touch that complements both traditional and modern interiors. Their warm wood grain works beautifully with both bold artwork and neutral tones, adding depth and character to your canvas prints with a refined, natural finish.

Dark oak frames bring the same natural grain in a deeper, warmer tone that grounds bold artwork and richer palettes. They add contrast and a sense of weight, sitting just as comfortably in a classic interior as in a warm, contemporary one.

WillonFloorRambert_composite - William Rowsell Fine Art

About the artist...

William has worked as a professional artist for 40+ years & his work is held in public and private collections around the world.  His diverse styles of artwork can be found in illustrated books, on ceramics, decorating fabrics, on the wall of many private collections and in public collections such as The Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Artist Info: "My work is grounded in observational drawing and experimentation in all mediums and subjects.

A way to empathise, reflect and deeply connect with my subject. Through decades of observation, I’ve developed an intuitive, responsive drawing process rooted in a deep understanding of form, composition, feel, expression and colour.

I draw when I experience moments in life that I take notice of and they raise the hairs on the back of my neck! I see the beauty of the drape and pattern of a fabric following the shape of a figure. The rhythms, colours and shapes changed by weather and light in a landscape. A musician or dancers’ expression and movement that connects with me during a performance.

Each subject reveals and dictates how it wants the drawn or painted marks to be made - through rhythm, movement, light, or sound - and I respond instinctively, letting the unexpected lead. I stop when the marks align with the subject’s essence and the image holds presence.

This is where I flourish: in the space between play, control and the excitement of accidental and unforeseen discovery.
