This canvas print is a reproduction of a reed pen drawing of irises under willow tree branches reaching over a pond. I drew the original en plein air in walnut ink on paper with reed pens hewn out of bullrushes.

Inspiration

I have been studying Van Gogh's landscape ink drawings and doing some copies using the same materials he used. I made some reed pens from bullrushes donated by my friend in our village. I then used the mark making language that Van Gogh used in my own drawing to see how to apply it to the landscape I was studying.
