Drawing Sol in Beach Bar Ola Brasil in Santa Maria, Cape Verde

William and Sol who he drew in the Brasil beach bar in Santa Maria

I visited the island of Sal in Cape Verde and painted and drew the landscape and inhabitants. The island sits out in the middle of the Atlantic and is exposed to the winds coming off the ocean. I sat in a brazilian bar on the beach in Santa Maria and drew the locals and tourists passing through.

Drawing in bars is an amazing place to capture people in a relaxed place and if you are discrete they wont mind. The more inquisitive types will come up to you to see what you are doing and sometimes it leads to great encounters with strangers. A local guy came up to me in the bar and asked if I would draw his girlfriend. The locals are an interesting mix of African and European due to the Portugese influence on the island. So I drew her.
