Framed prints are protected with a 3mm sheet of acrylic glazing. Please be aware there is a little bit of reflection on the glazing, if you prefer no reflection, please look at my framed canvas prints as they have no glazing.

Paper print - Border / Passepartout

We offer the option of a passepartout, a high-quality, acid-free border that surrounds your artwork within the frame. It not only adds an elegant visual space that draws attention to the piece.

The passepartout size refers to its outer dimensions, which must match your frame size. The window size indicates which print it fits. When you add a passepartout to a selected print and frame, both will adjust to the correct size.

When choosing passepartout, the print will be made one size smaller to fit inside it. Your selected size stays the same.

This print on fine art paper is a reproduction of a watercolour painting captured en plein air of Morston Quay in North Norfolk in England. This was painted on location in June when the Cockles (a boat design made by a local boat builder) were resting on the mud in the channel when the tide was out.

The inspiration

I was on my annual visit to North Norfolk and went out painting at Morston key. I walked down the path along the channel that leads down to the sea. Lots fo wooden jettys jut out along the tidal channel for the boats to moor up to. I took a position to paint from sitting on a wooden jetty I was inspired by the perspective of the various different kinds of boats sitting in the mud at low tide. The whole scene was framed beneath the large clouds racing across the big Norfolk skies above the windswept low lying marshes. The sailing boat in the forground is calles a Stiffkey Cockle and is designed by a local boat builder at Stiffkey just along the coast from Morston. They are a lovely shape to paint and draw.

About the artist...

William has worked as a professional artist for 40+ years & his work is held in public and private collections around the world.  His diverse styles of artwork can be found in illustrated books, on ceramics, decorating fabrics, on the wall of many private collections and in public collections such as The Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Artist Info: "My work is grounded in observational drawing and experimentation in all mediums and subjects.

A way to empathise, reflect and deeply connect with my subject. Through decades of observation, I’ve developed an intuitive, responsive drawing process rooted in a deep understanding of form, composition, feel, expression and colour.

I draw when I experience moments in life that I take notice of and they raise the hairs on the back of my neck! I see the beauty of the drape and pattern of a fabric following the shape of a figure. The rhythms, colours and shapes changed by weather and light in a landscape. A musician or dancers’ expression and movement that connects with me during a performance.

Each subject reveals and dictates how it wants the drawn or painted marks to be made - through rhythm, movement, light, or sound - and I respond instinctively, letting the unexpected lead. I stop when the marks align with the subject’s essence and the image holds presence.

This is where I flourish: in the space between play, control and the excitement of accidental and unforeseen discovery.
