Painting in to the light

Plein air oil painting of the plreasure gardens at Wotton in Buckinghamshire

I painted my favourite spot at Wotton Pleasure Gradens on a cold November day capturing the falling light over 3 hrs on a clear day in 2025. The ornamental bridge was silhouetted against the sun as it dropped behind the trees. The last of the autumn (shades of orange) color in the leaves were stood out against the dark shadows in the canopy behind. painting into the light is the hardest thing to do and usually artists will avoid this situation as its very hard to see colour against the extreme contrast. So I approached it as a lesson to get experience.
