This drawing was drawn in May 2022 just as it was flowering. I used compressed charcoal in an expressive way to capture the flow and shape of the tree. At the base of the tree there was very tall grass and nettles. That day as I walked beneath the canopy a barn owl flew out right over my head. This charcoal drawing was captured in late summer and the monster thistles were reaching for the sky against the other planting.
